What does being values led really mean?

In short, it means we use our values to help us make decisions. Decisions which are better for business, people AND the planet. When values translate from words into actions; that’s when they’re powerful, and that is exactly how we see our values. Actions, not words.
The journey begins with Activism, a value that highlights our belief in the power of small, positive decisions that collectively create significant change. At mys, activism is about taking a stand; it’s about embodying the change we want to see. We encourage our residents and employees to advocate for their beliefs and to make decisions that reflect these convictions every day. This commitment to actionable beliefs sets a powerful example and fosters an environment where every individual feels empowered to make a difference.
Being the first truly values-led living brand, mys has set a lofty Ambition—to nurture a generation of students who are academically proficient and respectful of people and the planet. Our ambition is to instil a sense of duty and recognition of the impact of one’s actions on society and the environment. This vision guides our strategic decisions, from the design of our living spaces to the partnerships we cultivate, ensuring that our ambitions are reflected in every facet of the student experience.
Our properties are set to be more than just buildings; they are vibrant hubs where individuals come together to learn, grow, and contribute to their local environments. We understand the importance of Community, both within and outside our walls, and strive to make our properties a catalyst for community building. By valuing and promoting diversity, inclusivity, and respect for the people and the planet, we create a welcoming space where everyone can celebrate their uniqueness while discovering common ground.
Freedom is another cornerstone of our ethos, closely tied to the community and the individual journey of our residents. At mys, we believe that new chapters in life are an opportunity for growth and discovery. We’re designing our living environments to be spaces of freedom and self-expression, where residents can explore new ideas and lifestyles in a supportive setting. This freedom is underpinned by a commitment to openness, encouraging everyone to be their authentic selves without fear of judgment.
Our commitment to these values is demonstrated through proactive measures that focus on monitoring and tracking energy usage. This allows us to make informed decisions aimed at amplifying efficiencies and minimising our environmental footprint. Additionally, we will provide training on energy usage for residents, reflecting our dedication to sustainability and social responsibility.
Moreover, as a proud Living Wage Employer our commitment to values-led decisions is incorporated in our mission, vision and values. With every room sold, we will make a donation that prevents 1000 plastic bottles from entering the sea, in our partnership with Ocean Bottle.
Our focus on continuous education ensures that all team members are trained in carbon literacy, maintaining awareness and fostering responsibility at all organisational levels. But we do not stop there; we are on a path to becoming a Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO), committed to ongoing improvement and learning. Additionally, we are proud to say that we are B Corp pending too.
At mys, we integrate our core values into every aspect of our operations, ensuring that we lead by example in the fields of shared living and purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA). We hope our commitment positions us at the forefront of sustainable development, appealing to investors and developers interested in building net-zero real estate. By consistently advancing our goals, we hope it comes across that we exemplify what it means to be a forward-thinking, a values-driven organisation, setting standards for sustainability and inclusivity in today’s real estate market.
